Alumni Career Services
The Career Development Office (CDO) has resources to assist GW Law JD alumni who are contemplating a job change or seeking employment. Our services for graduates are set forth below.
Alumni Toolkit
As an alumni, your first step for career advising should be to download and read your alumni toolkit:
Our alumni toolkit will answer questions about resumes, cover letters, and platforms offered by GW Law. Please be sure to complete the tasks set out in the toolkit before scheduling an appointment.
Join GW Law Link
Stay connected to the GW Law community from anywhere in the world with GW Law Link — the online platform that brings students and alumni together. Join today to expand your connections, share your expertise, and continue being an integral part of the GW Law legacy.
CORE Access and Resource Library
CORE is our platform accessing career advising materials, job listings, and scheduling appointments. CORE uses single sign-on (SSO) to link directly to your GW Law Google account. If you have any trouble logging into CORE, or if you do not have a GW Law Google account, please email both careerslaw [dot] gwu [dot] edu (careers[at]law[dot]gwu[dot]edu) and lawit
law [dot] gwu [dot] edu (lawit[at]law[dot]gwu[dot]edu).
If you need temporary or guest access, please fill out our Application for Alumni Access to CORE and we will do our best to process your request within 48 hours.
Career Consultations
If you would like support after reading the Alumni Toolkit and completing the suggested tasks, you may schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss resumes, cover letters, interviewing preparation, job search strategies, networking, and informational interviewing. You will need an active CORE account to schedule an appointment.
Note: LLM alumni should contact the Graduate and International Programs Office to be referred to the appropriate counselor.
Job Postings
Job notices for graduates are posted online through CORE. These regularly updated listings include openings received directly from employers and vacancies from selected legal newspapers, periodicals, job newsletters, and various websites.
If you would like to post a job for a current student or GW Law graduate, you can do so through the CORE Employer Portal, or by emailing us at postjobslaw [dot] gwu [dot] edu (postjobs[at]law[dot]gwu[dot]edu).
Judicial Clerkships
The Clerkship Office (within the CDO) assists alumni who are interested in pursuing post-graduate judicial clerkships. For additional information, please visit the CDO's Judicial Clerkships webpage.
Alumni Events
Every GW Law alumni event is an opportunity to network, and they are a lot of fun, too! Check out GW Law's Alumni Event Calendar to see what is coming up. If you are interested in helping to coordinate an alumni event in your area, there are many opportunities to get involved.
Reciprocity
The CDO manages GW Law’s Reciprocity Program. Reciprocity permits our students and recent graduates to access other career services offices and/or to subscribe to their job boards, and provides similar access to GW Law resources to students and recent graduates of those schools. Schools that grant reciprocity may offer it only during certain times of the year. In addition, reciprocity is usually offered for a finite period of a few months or less, and other restrictions may be imposed. View GW Law's Reciprocity Policy. To request reciprocity, please fill out this form.
Westlaw and Lexis Advance
Westlaw and Lexis Advance services remain available to alumni for a limited time after graduation. Please visit the Jacob Burns Law Library’s Database Access page for details. Westlaw has a Careers tab, with a number of links to advice on managing your career. Lexis Advance offers extensive online databases for job hunters, including Martindale-Hubbell.
